Melrose Park Diesel Engine Plant and Technical Center

Melrose Park Engine Plant and Technical Center

The Melrose Park Engine Plant and Technical Center was originally constructed in 1941. In 1946, International Harvester, now Navistar International Corporation, purchased the plant for its construction equipment and engine businesses and began engineering, manufacturing and assembling a variety of diesel engines and construction equipment products. In 1975, Navistar introduced its wet-sleeved DT 466, setting a new standard for medium-duty diesel engines, with its long life to overhaul and in-chassis rebuild diesel engine capability. A few years later, Navistar introduced the 6.9-liter V-8 diesel engine for International brand trucks and Ford heavy pickup trucks and vans.

Today, the Melrose Park plant produces the MaxxForce DT (the legendary DT 466), MaxxForce 9 and MaxxForce 10 on its 1.5 million sq. ft. manufacturing floor. These diesel engines, built on Navistar’s proven I-6 platform, are known for their legendary reliability, wide range of vocational capabilities, durability and industry-leading residual value, which add up to high-value and low cost of ownership for owners of Class 6–7 trucks and buses.

The Melrose Park Engine Plant is ISO/TS 16949 certified and the Technical Center is ISO 9001 and QS 9000 certified.
