MaxxForce 2010 EPA Emissions Learning Center
The videos below look at the different approaches to meeting the 2010 EPA emissions regulations: catalytic reduction or Navistar’s in-cylinder solution.
2010 Emissions Solutions
Owners of vehicles with diesel engines are all too familiar with change in clean emissions guidelines. In 2010, new EPA emissions regulations call for an 83% reduction in NOx (nitrogen oxides), gaseous pollutants formed during diesel combustion.
The videos below look at the different approaches to meeting 2010 emissions regulations: catalytic reduction or Navistar’s in-cylinder solution.
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR)
- Addresses NOx after it has formed in the engine
- Complicated process
- Requires extra hardware
- Requires additional fluid
- Adds extra weight
- Requires extra steps for maintenance
MaxxForce® In-cylinder Solution with Advanced EGR
- Fuel economy
- EPA compliant
- Lower operating costs
- No urea required
- No payload penalty
- No new training
- No impact on TEMs
The final video is a comparison of the two options to be EPA emissions compliant: selective catalytic reduction verses MaxxForce’s in-cylinder solution.
EPA Emissions Compliant Choice: MaxxForce or SCR
- SCR componentry vs in-cylinder hardware
- SCR operational needs vs in-cylinder solution
- Fuel economy comparison
